8U Division

The LCYO Girls 8U Division is designed for seven and eight year olds. The season will feature live pitching by the players and some pitching by the coaches, round robin batting, and free substitution. The girls will be rotating defensively so that everyone has a chance to learn both infield and outfield positions.  Games and practices are held at La Costa Heights Elementary School and Stagecoach Community Park starting in late January through the end of April. LCYO proudly plays under the USA Softball guidelines.

8U Division age is determined by the age of the child as of August 31st for Spring Season. Our emphasis will be on teaching the  fundamentals of softball whether they are new to the sport or are experienced players. Each player will develop at their own pace but all will have fun and have a great team sport experience.

Spring Season:

  • Practice begins the end of January with a weekday and Saturday practice per week.
  • Games begin on Opening day, which will be the last Saturday of February. Saturday games continue through the end of April. Each team will have a weekday practice and one game on Saturday.  Times and weekdays will vary.
  • Practices and games will be played at Stagecoach Community Park and La Costa Heights Elementary.
  • Spring Season is concluded by two weeks of playoff games culminating with our Championship Games the last Saturday in April.

Forming Teams:

Evaluation Day traditionally occurs the first week of January.

The girls will be assessed on their hitting, fielding, base running, and pitching (if applicable.) This evaluation helps ensure evenly skilled teams that are equally competitive.  Team parity is our goal and can only be achieved if we have 100% attendance on evaluation day.

Pitching evaluations will be held at the conclusion of position evaluations for ALL possible pitchers. Any player who plans to pitch more than 5 innings during the season MUST be evaluated on evaluation day so that teams can be created with an equal amount of pitching on each.

After evaluations are completed a draft will be held & players will be placed on team rosters. Parents will be contacted by their respective coach once teams are finalized.

Please bring your glove, bat and helmet (helmets must have a face mask); softball or soccer cleats are recommended. Long hair is recommended to be tied back and softball pants or athletic clothing worn.

LCYO looks forward to helping your daughter learn and enjoy the great game of softball. LCYO has become a nationally known softball organization.

Please contact the 8U Division Director if you have any additional questions.
