LCYO GIRLS SOFTBALL – DIVISION III

SPRING 2006

The LCYO Girl’s Softball program is entering its eleventh season of affiliation with the Amateur Softball Association (ASA).  The ASA is a national governing body with the responsibility of promoting healthy competition and equal opportunity for all participants.

The Girls Division III follows the ASA Official Rules of Softball which include dropped third strike, balks, the infield fly rule, base stealing, and other rules that normally apply to the game of softball.  To ensure a safer and more positive experience for the players, there will be modifications to the ASA rules that will be agreed upon by the managers prior to the beginning of the season.  In particular, the LCYO Girl’s Softball program’s Participation Rules will be used to guarantee playing time and field positioning for all players.

LCYO stresses recreation, participation, softball fundamentals, learning, and teamwork above all else.  Competitive spirit will be nourished through interleague play, All-Stars, and tournaments.

EVALUATION DAY:  SATURDAY, JANUARY 8, 2005

Evaluation of all players will occur on Saturday, January 8, 2005, at La Costa Heights Elementary School.  Attendance on this date is mandatory for all players.  The rain date for evaluations is January 15, 2005.  The girls will be assessed on hitting, fielding, base running, and pitching.  Further details on evaluations will be provided in the December LCYO newsletter.

ALL-STARS AND DIVISION III TOURNAMENT

There will be an All-Star team selected by the coaches at the end of the year to participate in several county tournaments.  Participation is not mandatory, but encouraged for players who wish to represent LCYO and play against excellent competition.
