LCYO 2007 PONY DIVISION FACT SHEET

The LCYO Pony Division provides an opportunity for 13 & 14-year-old boys (birth dates between 5/1/92 and 4/30/94 to play competitive baseball in an atmosphere that fosters and supports the recreational attitude of the La Costa Youth Organization.

Pony Division baseball is virtually real baseball.  We use real baseball rules and equipment with only a few minor modifications.  A few of the modifications include free fielding substitutions  All players play at least five innings in the field in a seven-inning game.  We also limit pitchers to three innings per game to make the games more competitive and to protect our pitchers.  Further, we’ve modified traditional baseball rules to allow for batting the entire order, not just those players in the field.  Most teams are limited to 11-12 players, so everyone gets a lot of playing time during the season.

Players will receive full uniforms from the league. Each player supplies his own cleats (metal cleats are allowed), cup, sliding shorts, glove and bat.

Pony games are 7 innings long and take 2 to 2 1/2 hours to complete. Games are currently slated to be played at Poinsettia Park, and at the Zone 5 field on Faraday Drive.

The spring baseball season for the LCYO Pony Division will begin Saturday, January 6th at Poinsettia Park, Field #3, with evaluations of all players.  Attendance on this date is mandatory.  All players will go through a short series of drills that include hitting, fielding, throwing, and running.  During the month of December, all registered Pony Division players will receive an emailed notice of their assigned times to attend and participate in the January evaluation day.

The 2007 season Pony teams will be selected in late January and the twice a week practices will begin soon after.  League games are scheduled to start the first week in March, and will run through the second week in June. No games will be scheduled during public school break in April, nor any in May over the Memorial Day weekend.  Otherwise, each player will have a game during the week (Mon-Thurs), and a game on Saturday from the beginning of March until the end of May.  Playoffs will be conducted in June, with the finals scheduled for mid-June.  For the most current information please log onto the LCYO website   www.lcyo.org.
