2007 LCYO MUSTANG DIVISION FACT SHEET
The Mustang division is an important step in your child’s understanding of baseball and development of skills. In this division the players will begin playing traditional baseball, with live pitching, base stealing, bunting and all the related offensive and defensive strategies. To be eligible to play in the 2007 Mustang division your child must have a birth date between 5/1/96 and 4/30/98. I am confident this Mustang season will be an exciting and productive experience for you and your children.
LCYO has decided to break our Mustang division this year into two divisions, North and South. We believe this encourages more neighborhood-based teams, reduces the administrative jobs to a manageable size, and improves the experience for both parents and children. The boundaries are open, so parents can choose either division. So even if you live in a "North" school district (Aviara Oaks, La Costa Meadows, Pacific Rim, Rancho Carrillo, and San Elijo), you are free to sign up for the South if you choose; however, be aware the other players on the team most likely will not live in your neighborhood.
To help you plan your year; here are some dates to mark on your calendar. All players need to be present at our evaluation day Saturday, January 13th, at Mission Estancia Elementary School. The North Division will have evaluations from 8:00am to noon and the South will go from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. If, due to weather or prior commitments, you are unable to attend a make-up day will be held on Saturday, January 20th. The purpose of the evaluations is to promote a competitive balance between teams. 100% participation of all players is required and you will be notified of the exact time your child should arrive for his/her evaluation.
Each team will be allowed up to three designated players prior to evaluations. These will be the manager and coach’s children. The third (sponsor’s) child must be designated before December 31, 2006 and only upon prior approval of the Division Directors who will ensure that LCYO rules are adhered to.
A player draft of the undesignated players will be held during the week of January 28th. Coaches will call you later in the same week to notify you of your practice day and time. Practices usually begin the first week in February and league play begins February 26th. The preseason consists of two practices per week, one during the week and one on Saturday. Once games begin there will be two games per week, one during the week and one on Saturdays. Some managers may continue to practice on Sundays during the season. Practices and games will be held at Mission Estancia Elementary School, Poinsettia Park and Stagecoach Park.
LCYO provides each player with a uniform shirt, pants, socks, and cap. Parents must provide a leather glove, rubber cleated shoes, belt, and batting helmet – which in this division requires a face cage that can be purchased at any sporting goods store.
The key to the success of our organization is parent involvement. Parents are needed as managers, coaches, sponsors, team parents, scorekeepers, and in assisting with field preparation. Please volunteer on your registration form to help in some way. Participation will allow you to get to know the other parents and children and enhance your enjoyment of the game.
As this year’s Mustang Co-Directors, we are pleased you decided to participate in LCYO. We are committed to ensure that your child has a rewarding and enjoyable experience playing baseball in LCYO.
