Division I, II & III
TOURNAMENT TEAM MANAGER Selection Criteria
1) The manager has consistently demonstrated good sportsmanship in LCYO.
2) Previous tournament team coaching experience is recommended.
3) The manager must be a current manager or coach for LCYO girl’s softball.
4) Acknowledges that ASA provides a VIP education program for coaches.
MANAGER SELECTION: A meeting will be held at least two weeks before May 1st. Managers who are interested in being selected as the Tournament Team manager will be given 3 minutes to give their reasons why they should be selected. There will be a brief discussion on the candidates before a blind ballot is taken. The manager with the majority of the votes will be selected. The Division Director, if not a manager, will count votes and vote in case of a tie. If the Division Director is also a manager, then the Softball Director will count votes and break ties. If needed, the whole process will be repeated for a “B” team manager.
Ø Only the managers will vote for a tournament team manager for both the “A” and “B” team.
Ø The elected “A” team manager will have up to 5 days to select 2 assistant coaches. Then, the “B” team manager will select 2 assistant coaches
TOURNAMENT TEAM CANDIDATES: Each team will provide a list of pre-screened players that should receive tournament team consideration. These players should be the best that LCYO has to offer. The lists must to be submitted to the Division Director and the Director of Softball. The list will be compiled and handed to the Tournament Team Manager(s) at the end of the manager selection meeting. As you put your list together, make no promises to anyone and pre-screen your players. There will be no promise of positions, game time, or number of at bats. It will be a highly competitive situation and we will play to win. Make sure you talk to the parents 1st, many players are willing to make the commitment, some parents are not.
Ø The “A” team coach will have up to 7 days to make their player selections. If there is a “B” team, that coach will make their selections after the “A” team. The “B” team coaches may not contact any players until the “A” selections have been finalized
Ø Any player that is selected to play on a tournament team has 24 hours to accept the invitation. If a player declines to play for the team they are selected for, they have declined to play All Stars for that season. Some exceptions will be made with director’s approval.
Ø The Tournament Team Coaches (A and B) must submit their list of players to the division director and softball directors for review prior to announcement of the players. Any discrepancies will be discussed by the coach and directors.
Ø Each team should expect to carry 12 players.
Ø No tournament team players can be announced before May 1st (ASA rules)
The “B” Team: A “B” team should only be formed if adequate pitching can be assured. The “B” team manager needs to be someone who can provide a positive experience for the girls even when they don’t win. We have formed “B” teams several times. Some have only won 1 of the 16 to 20 games played. One “B” team won about half its games. On the one hand, it’s a great way for our league to provide tournament play experience for more of our players. On the other hand, it can be a long and difficult season for the competitive players, coaches, and parents.
